Eligibility
2010-2011 Academic Year
April 1, 2010 Deadline

One-year scholarships are awarded annually and are limited to undergraduate studies at accredited educational or technical institutions. If your parent participated in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom, or is currently participating in either operation, we have additional scholarship funds available only to those children who meet this condition. In addition, Heroes Tribute Scholarships (of up to $30,000 over four years) are given to specific categories of students. See list below. We also have a limited number of scholarships available for the children of current or of former Navy Corpsmen who are/were attached to Marine units. Scholarships are not automatically renewable. Current recipients must reapply and may receive no more than four annual scholarships. We may award scholarships to all eligible children in the same family. Applicants must be studying for a first Bachelor’s degree.

Applicants must be:

1.   The son/daughter of one of the following:

   ·    Active duty, reserve, or retired U. S. Marine
   
·    U.S. Marine who has served at least 90 days and has received an Honorable Discharge, Medical Discharge, or was killed while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps
   
·    Active duty or reserve U.S. Navy Corpsman who is currently attached to a Marine unit, or was attached to a Marine unit
   
·    U.S. Navy Corpsman who was attached to a Marine unit and has received an Honorable Discharge, Medical Discharge, or was killed while serving in the U.S. Navy

and

2.     Graduating from high school in 2010, or currently attending college or a vocational/technical institution, or planning to attend college or a vocational/technical institution in the fall of 2010

and

3.   Scholarships are targeted at eligible applicants from families with a maximum adjusted gross income of $82,000 or less in 2009. The income guideline increases if eligible siblings attending college or planning to attend college also apply for a scholarship. Siblings must apply in order for the guideline to increase. For the purpose of determining eligibility, non-taxable allowances (such as BAH) received by military members on active duty are NOT included in determining adjusted gross income.

4.     Your gpa is at least 2.0

 HEROES TRIBUTE SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY

 1.  The children of Marines and of former Marines who were killed in the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001

 2.  The children of Marines who are killed in combat while participating in the “war on terrorism” undertaken in response to the attacks of 11 September 2001

 3.  The children of Navy Corpsmen attached to Marine units, and of Navy Religious Program Specialists attached to Marine units, who are killed in combat while participating in the “war on terrorism” undertaken in response to the attacks of 11 September 2001

 LIMITED GRANDCHILDREN ELIGIBILITY

In addition, we administer the scholarship programs of several other Marine associations who offer scholarships to the grandchildren of their members. The qualifying grandparent must be a member of one of the associations. It is a limited list. There are no exceptions. The applicant must provide proof of membership. Only an eligible grandchild should apply.

____ My grandparent served in the 5th Marine Division during World War II and is/was a member of their association

____ My grandparent is a member of the Basic Class 3-56
____ My grandparent is a member of the USMC/Combat Helicopter Association
____ My grandparent is a member of the Marines’ Memorial Association
____ My grandparent was a Marine and was killed in action
____ My grandparent was a member of the 3d Battalion/26th Marines
